What Mexican/Southwestern Restaurant is Each CFB Conference?
As college football fans across the nation, we all love our football and our food. Food is the connecting force to so many tailgates and watch parties every Saturday in the fall. Grilling up burgers and hotdogs, catering from our local favorites, your friend's homemade Rotel dip, buffalo chicken dip or cold chicken tenders in the grove, food connects us all. It is communal. I am going to do a series detailing what CFB conference would be what food group throughout the summer. Today we are going through what CFB conference is what Mexican/Southwestern restaurant. Let me know what restaurant you think represents your conference on Twitter @HaroldLStokes !
Pac 12 - Taco Bell
Pac 12 After Dark is just that perfect drunk meal that you line up to end the night. You know it's not the best but you'll put the Crunchwrap Supreme (USC) up there with a lot of entrees and your love for the Chessy Gordita Crunch (Oregon) hits more than most restaurants could dream. Sure, there are some usual standards that seem to always disappoint like the hardshell tacos (UCLA) but the quesadillas are one of the most consistent items you can get (Utah).
Big 12 - Your Local Spot
Hey, you know your local spot that you absolutely love munching down on free chips and salsa drinking one too many margs with friends and family. Nobody else really cares about it but everyone's head turns when the fajitas (Texas/Oklahoma) come sizzling out from the back and we all know the person that orders a fishbowl (Oklahoma State) is going to need help getting home because they can't ever finish strong. There is always that one weird menu item you want to be good so bad but just can't ever pull the trigger and order it (Kansas). And then there is that weird Pineapple bowl that you swear was delicious and filling but you kind of feel disappointed about afterwards (TCU). (Also try to tell me it doesn't look exactly like the picture above).
ACC - Moe's
Some people swear by it, it is always welcoming and a fun watch but it's clearly not the favorite of the chain spots. Has some absolute heaters (queso/Clemson) but everything else isn't exactly the highest quality. You swear the Nachos are going to be as good as they used to be, but they never seem to be great (Miami/FSU). You know the Homewreckers and Joeys are lovely, but they always taste a little fake (UNC/VT). Some may adore it and will champion it as their favorite, but it has clearly lost out to its betters.
Big Ten - Chipotle
Listen, we know you have won the fast-food wars, but I am not sure if anyone has ordered anything else off the menu besides a burrito (Ohio State) or burrito bowl (Michigan). I know the guac (Penn State) is good, but it clearly isn't a main dish as it's usually carried in a burrito or a bowl. Don't even talk to me about the tacos or quesadillas we can love them and understand they are never going to be a favorite (Wisconsin/Iowa).
SEC - Actual Tex-Mex
It doesn't matter what you order off the menu it's going to hit. The tacos (Alabama) always hit the spot, the covered burrito (LSU) is delicious and spicy but it always fills you up a little too much. This place gives you both green and red salsa (Florida/Georgia) and they both arguably could be the MVP of the entire meal. While this menu seems to just be one good dish after another, it is odd everyone just agrees to ignore the chicken tenders on the menu (Vanderbilt).
