HLS Movie Awards Nominees : Best Score
Welcome back to HLS Movie Awards Nominee lists this time we are covering film scores. Scores are a very hard thing to recommend to people to listen to, so in this list I am going to try to describe the general vibe and quickly talk about each and then provide a Spotify link to where you can listen to them yourself! As always this will be in alphabetical order not in a ranking.
Da 5 Bloods- Composer: Terence Blanchard
This one is weird for me because if you read by Top Movies of 2020 blogs you ight remember I am not a fan of this movie, it was fine it just had too many obvious issues in it to ignore meanwhile it gets propped up just for being a Spike Lee joint. This score is 10x better than the entire movie itself. Delroy Lindo and Terence Blanchard deserve award nominations not Spike. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
Greyhound- Composer: Blake Neely
Greyhound has one of the best heroic scores we have had in decades, I absolutely adored it. I need Blake Neely doing superhero films. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
The Invisible Man- Composer: Benjamin Wallfisch
This is a eerie creepy vibe that really elevated the movie. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
Mank- Composers: Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor
This score feels like a blast from the past filled with classic 30s-40s musical tones that we have all seen in older movies or movies set in the past but with just excellent flavor that really fit the movie perfectly. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
News of the World- Composer: James Newton Howard
Something that I love about this score is the classic hymn undertones and themes that play out and repeat throughout the score, it has a since of familiarity while bringing you something new. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
Soul- Composers: Jon Batiste, Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor
I want to give a special shout out to Jon Batiste because he does the beginning to the score for Soul and it is easily the most beautiful part of the entire movie, this would have been an easy run away if he did the entire movie. This is not a shot at Atticus Ross or Trent Reznor, there is a reason they are on here multiple times. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
Tenet- Composer: Ludwig Goransson
This movie's score is probably one of the more unique ones on this list because of its brunt nature in parts as well as the style and instruments used are just so different from the rest of the field. Ludwig Goransson is one of the fastest up coming composers out there right now after doing Black Panther, Venom, Creed 2, Mandalorian and now Tenet. Here is the link to listen on Spotify
