HLS Movie Awards: Best Picture Nominees

Image
Welcome back to the 4th annual HLS Movie Awards, in this piece we are going to be discussing the 15 nominees for best picture of 2022. To be eligible to be considered the film must have been released to the public IN 2022, not at some film festival. I love doing these rankings and I hope you use them to help decide what to watch for your next movie night.     Real quick,  like always with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale there is, the IMDB user rating score. Here is a simple breakdown of what their 0.0-10 grading scale means: 0.1-5.0  = Horrible waste of time 5.1-6.4  = Risky might be good might be garbage (lot of horror falls here) 6.5-7.4  = Good solid movie 7.5+      = Movie that is widely adored / enjoyed Now this is not a gold standard obviously but is a good gauge as to how audiences who watched a movie felt about it. Here are my best picture nominees! Films in alphabetical order Babylon IMDb Score: 7.3 This movie is just an

2023 HLS Movie Awards: Best Acting Ensemble Nominees

Image
Welcome back to the 4th Annual HLS Movie Awards, this piece is going to be covering the Best Acting Ensembles of 2022.   Cyrano Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett are our two nominees individually for best actor/actress but Kelvin Harrison jr. and Ben Mendelsohn both put on great performances. Kelvin opening his heart in search of love and Mendelsohn in the lordly jerk. Drive My Car Best actor nominee Hidetoshi Nishijima really drug me into this film, I hung on every word as he calmly (at times) yet emphatically pours his heart out in this role. Toko Miura and Masaki Okada both really sold their parts perfectly where you genuinely believe they are who they are portraying. Everything Everywhere All at Once Two best actress nominees in Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Hsu, best actor nominee Ke Huy Quan are just the tip of this movie's iceberg. Jamie Lee Curtis specifically did a great job, as well as James Hong in a more limited role still did great. The Whale Our four main cast member

2023 HLS Movie Awards: Best Actor Nominees

Image
Welcome back to the HLS Movie Awards, this piece will be covering the Best Actor nominees and will briefly talk about each performance. Reminder as always, I do not split up leading versus supporting, the best performance deserves the spotlight no matter the screentime. Also, I do not do a select number of nominees to fill out, nor do I have a cutoff for the amount. On to the Nominees! Reminder to be eligible for this year's HLS Movie Awards the film the performance was in had to be released publicly IN 2022, not at some film festival. Nominees in alphabetical order John Boyega - Breaking     Honestly, I am furious this performance has not been racking up nominations all around the awards world, EASILY one of the best performances of 2022 and the film itself is worth a watch for it alone (the film is also very good). Austin Butler - Elvis     As a day 1 Elvis film fan I think it has been hilarious watching the internet start off by bashing this movie to now however months later fin

2023 HLS Movie Award: Best Actress Nominees

Image
Welcome back to the 4th Annual HLS Movie Award, in this piece we are going to go over the nominees for best actress! Now as always, I do not split up supporting or lead, if they were the best acting performance of the year, they deserve the credit no matter their screentime. I am very happy to say we have two returning nominees back on the list this year, both were nominated for their performances in 2020 films. Now with the number of nominees, as always, I do not have a select number to fill out or a cut off. The best of the best gets nominated whether that be 5 people or 15. Excellence deserves recognition.     As a quick reminder the performances had to be in a film released to the mass public IN 2022. Not some film that only the people at a certain film festival or select few that get screeners have seen, to be eligible the film has to be widely released. On to the nominees! In alphabetical order by last name Angela Bassett - Black Panther Wakanda Forever This was simply a pow

HLS Movie Awards Top 160 Movies of 2022 Part 2! 100-51

Image
Welcome back to the HLS Movie Awards! Today we are going through the Top 160 movies of 2022, and this list shall cover 100 thought 51. This is a really weird chunk of the list because as you will see, there are a LOT of good movies here. I have been calling it for a long time that 2022 will be an all-time year of film and I think this section really shows it. So many times, even for myself, as I wrote out names I was like "__ is this low?" but there were just that many good movies this year. Tons of big blockbusters, horror and a resurgence of really good romcoms are in this section and I hope you get to check them out! Well anyway I won't waste too much more time you know how this goes!     Real quick,  like always with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale there is, the IMDB user rating score. Here is a simple breakdown of what their 0.0-10 grading scale means: 0.1-5.0  = Horrible waste of time 5.1-6.4  = Risky migh
