10 Movies to Watch Before Marvel Studios Werewolf by Night!

Welcome back to HLS Entertainment! In the spirit of the Halloween season and the new Marvel Studios Werewolf by Night releasing this week, I have compiled a list of 10 movies you should watch if you are in the mood for a good Halloween scare. This list was specifically made in mind of the Werewolf by Night special, with many Universal Monster movies that served as inspiration for the special and including one all time horror film that was specifically named as inspiration!

10. Frankenstein (1931)

Based on a play that adapted the famous 1818 Mary Shelley novel, is a story I am sure we all know but to see its very first adaptation on screen and how wonderfully done it was is something I recommend every horror and film fan take part of.

9. The Invisible Man (1933)

Based on the 1897 HG Wells novel of the same name. This film and story has been adapted many times including one of my favorite horror/thriller movies The Invisible Man (2020).

8. Werewolf of London (1935)

The original werewolf film released by universal. This was the FIRST Hollywood mainstream film to feature a werewolf.

7. The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

This is sometimes referred to as the "best" or most beloved universal monster movie of all time.

6. The Phantom of the Oprea (1925)

Not your parent's version, or your grandparent's version for that matter, this movie has been adapted and remade dozens of times across many medium. This is a silent film that you will be impressed by over and over, just thinking how in the world did they accomplish that almost a hundred years ago.

5. Poltergeist (1982)

A film directly mentioned by Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino as an inspiration for his new special.

4. Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)

The OG movie crossover event, Frankenstein vs Wolf Man

3. Dracula (1931)

Arguably the most popular monster movie, based on a play that was based on Bram Stocker's Dracula this movie is probably the movie people think of when it comes to monster movies.

2. Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

A movie about scientific discovery, that has to feature the worst named monster on this list in Gill-Man. I think this movie is a huge inspiration for Man-Thing and is a monster movie classic so it was a must watch for this list. This movie was also obviously a huge inspiration for the recently popular "The Shape of Water" from Guillermo del Toro.

1. The Wolf Man (1941)

This is considered to be THE werewolf film and considered one of the most cherished versions of the werewolf myth. I adore this horror classic and think it is a must watch for any horror/monster movie fan.
