#HLSBets CFB Week 14 Recap, Rundown, Top 25 and More! Conference Championship Week

Welcome back to #HLSBets on HLS Entertainment, this has been just a wild crazy year of college football and it is starting to wind down to a close. Do not quote me on this number I am just repeating what I heard but supposedly 62 times an undefeated teams beat a ranked team this season. This beat out 2007 that only had 59 times an undefeated team beat a ranked team. This Saturday the only main game is Army vs Navy kicks off at 2pm on CBS and I can't wait to watch. Also Saturday night is the Heisman trophy ceremony, next week's post will be going over all of the college football awards and presenting some of our own! On to the much shorter rundown!

Conference Championship weekend kicked off with the incredible shootout between UTSA and Western Kentucky. Bailey Zappe almost led an outstanding comeback scoring four touchdowns in the last quarter and change of the game. But UTSA prevailed to finish 12-1 49-41. The second game of the weekend was Oregon vs Utah in the Pac 12 Championship. If you were curious if the Ducks were distracted by the rumors swirling head coach Mario Cristobal leaving for Miami, we got our answer in the final score of Utah beating up on Oregon 38-10. Saturday morning was kicked off with a great top ten matchup between Baylor and Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship that had a heartbreaking ending of a fourth and goal run by Jackson just failing to stretch out and reach the pylon. Baylor 21 Oklahoma State 16.

We then had the MAC Championship that was possible the most boring game of the weekend with Northern Illinois beating up on Kent State 41-23. Then San Diego State disappointed us all getting KILLED by Utah State 13-46. Billy Napier finished out his time at Louisiana finally beating App State and claiming the Sun Belt title, now off to the sunshine state to be the head man for Gators. Next, we came to the biggest shock of the weekend, the SEC Championship. All season we all knew Georgia was the best team in the country by far and nobody stood a chance against that all time defenses. Enter Bryce Young and a surprising performance from the Alabama offensive line. I absolutely do not know what got into that Alabama offensive line they were pitiful most of the season in comparison to their previous years of star studded first rounders everywhere, but they showed up in Atlanta. The offensive line did not need to be their usual Alabama star studded group though, just give Bryce time to throw and they will have a chance against anyone. And they did, and Alabama beat down that incredible Georgia defense scoring 41 points. They had only given up 83 all season long. If Bryce Young gets time, nobody is stopping him. Alabama won 41-24 thanks to Young's 421 passing yards 3 TDs, and 40 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD.

The Cougars failed to make our dreams come true, but they put up a fight with Cincy 20-35. Now Cincy gets Bama, and it will be one fun game to watch. Then the Big Ten championship kicked off and we thought oh maybe Iowa's defense and turnover luck will show up today and make it a game, alas they did not. Michigan rolled in there and demolished them 42-3. This Wolverine team means business. The ACC Championship game was sadly without Clemson, and I think they would have put up a better fight than Wake Forest, who was pummeled 21-45. By the way, the fake slide should be illegal but that was just to cool of a play by Kenny Pickett. That was the last conference championship of the weekend, but we also got to watch USC get embarrassed losing to Cal 14-24 in a makeup game that had to be rescheduled.

Heisman Frontrunners

Bryce Young -5,000

Aidan Hutchinson +2,000

Kenny Pickett +2,500

CJ Stroud +3,300

Huh, I wonder who is going to win? If you have been following this weekly blog all season this should be no surprise, nor should it be that Kenny Pickett is a finalist as well. Congrats Bryce Young, you walked away with the Heisman this weekend. I honestly cannot in good conscious tell you to throw money on anyone aside from the Alabama QB, this would be the biggest Heisman upset of all time if he does not win it at this point. I will go so far as to say if Young does not win, we need to reorganize the Heisman voting. There is absolutely no argument for anyone else to win it over him... ASIDE from Kenny Picket turning around a 6-5 team and turning them into 11-win ACC Champions. But you cannot tell me he had a better season than Bryce, he just over performed and should be celebrated for it.

Free Time

We have an absolute MARATHON till the National Championship, but more specifically until January 1st. Between December 17th and January 1st there are only TWO days total without a college football game. Bowl season is magical, I love it. December 19th, 26th are those two days you're welcome, plan accordingly. Then we have a gap from the 2nd-9th where we only have the one odd game on January 4th (LSU vs Kansas State) between New Year's Day games and the National Championship on the 10th.

Alabama National Champions?

The Troops

Man oh man are we really about to have Alabama winning another National Championship? If that offense plays that way again (specifically the offensive line) then I do not know who can stop him, it sure is not Cincy, and Georgia and Michigan do not have the offensive fire power to even pretend to keep up with them. Well, not unless Georgia spends this month getting JT Daniels right and ready to play. All season long we knew their offense was significantly better with JT at the helm instead of the mailman, let us see if they can pull the trigger and actually make the change because they just proved Stetson can't beat Alabama.

Army Navy, the most classic game of college football. The game nobody actually has a rooting interest in, but we all watch. I think this game represents the ultimate love for the game, the most casual fans will not watch it but all of us football addicted crazies will be loving every second of it. Here's to the love of the game.
