Spider-Man Films Ranking (Including Venom)
With Marvel Studios Spider-Man 3 title soon to be announced (will edit it here when announced-EDIT - The title is Spider-Man: No Way Home) I decided to do a quick blog to put out there the CORRECT Spider-Man movie rankings. I am including Venom because it is my list get over it, and I would have included Morbius but it is not out yet. Well enough time wasting here we go
9. Amazing Spider-Man 2
These bottom two were a toss up for me as they both ended their franchises but Amazing Spider-Man 2 was just so bad. They had a possibly interesting story moving forward and Andrew Garfield was different but was still a very solid Peter Parker but we all know why this movie was so poorly received, the weird as hell Goblin storyline and Jamie Foxx's Electro was cringingly bad. Spending time for that to be your main villain in the movie is a laughable decision, it would have been okay if they used him like they did with Paul Giamatti's Rhino (which was also terrible). Clock Tower Scene was still heart(and neck)breaking.
8. Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man 3 fell victim to itself, it tried to be much more than it was growing too far too fast. Too many villains and Tobey McGuire's over acting got the best of them. I love Tobey, grew up on his movies, he ALWAYS had the cringey over acting cry face going on in these movies. The movies were always able to overcome but this one just went too far with the emo Peter Parker dance sequence.
7. Venom
Not a great movie. I am very heavily biased loving Tom Hardy, I think he is the best actor working so I was a sucker for this movie. It is not great, but it is also not horrible. Honestly I believe this is the best Venom storyline Sony could have done not having Spider-Man involved.
6. The Amazing Spider-Man
So much potential in this movie, with interesting (good or bad I'll let you decide) choices to make the story of Peter's parents something.. more. Andrew Garfield was played "too cool" to be Peter Parker for most people but I thought he was a very accurate of the time loner photography smart kid.
5. Spider-Man
The granddaddy of them all, man I was obsessed with this movie as a child. It is where I first fell in love with Willem Dafoe's amazing acting prowess. Tobey McGuire was amazing for the time coming off Pleasantville for the role of Peter Parker. Movies today are just different but I believe the biggest plus to movies today is that people want realism in our movies and overacting and over dramatizing things have fallen to the side and are now labeled as cringe.. let's just say this movie fits those descriptors looking back on it.
4. Spider-Man: Far From Home
I truly believe this movie looking back on will be more fondly than most of the movies on this list. It is a truly unique Spider-Man movie that shows Peter abroad working with Nick Fury* trying to stop giant elemental monsters* from destroying the Earth. We see a real Mysterio with applicable tech within universe being just all the comic book goodness we could ever want from him. This movie feels the most like a random Spider-Man comic you pick up than any other movie on this list.
3. Spider-Man 2
This movie being at three is DEFINITLY going to get people mad at me but trust me I am not doing it for that purpose. Doc Ock is EASILY the best villain in any of these movies hands down but it just suffers from some of the same issues the entire trilogy suffers from, that style of movie just did not age well unfortunately. This was the GOAT super hero movie for a long time but slides further down the poll as the years pass and tastes change.
2. Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man Homecoming was the first time on film Peter Parker actually felt like a high school kid who is the our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. You cannot argue that, Andrew Garfield and Tobey were simply too old and their stories never even tried to make him the loveable high schooler that he is. They were in such a rush to skip that we missed out on what made Spider-Man great. He is the everyman for high schoolers everywhere. Not to mention we get Michael Keaton playing the second best villain on this entire list in the Vulture. Getting ahead of people complaining this is an Iron Man movie, RDJ was in this 2 hour 13 minute movie for less than 15 minutes.
1. Into The Spider-Verse
I mean, hey, who did you expect? This incredible Miles Morales movie was absolutely perfect for what it is. It balanced SO many characters it introduced for the first time to 90% of the viewing audience and had some of the most honest heartfelt moments in any movie this past decade. This absolutely breathtaking animation makes this movie top 5 by itself, then add that together with arguably the best writing and story of all 9? This was not even a debate in my head to put this rightfully at number 1.
