2023 HLS Movie Awards: Best Acting Ensemble Nominees

Welcome back to the 4th Annual HLS Movie Awards, this piece is going to be covering the Best Acting Ensembles of 2022.

Cyrano

Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett are our two nominees individually for best actor/actress but Kelvin Harrison jr. and Ben Mendelsohn both put on great performances. Kelvin opening his heart in search of love and Mendelsohn in the lordly jerk.

Drive My Car

Best actor nominee Hidetoshi Nishijima really drug me into this film, I hung on every word as he calmly (at times) yet emphatically pours his heart out in this role. Toko Miura and Masaki Okada both really sold their parts perfectly where you genuinely believe they are who they are portraying.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Two best actress nominees in Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Hsu, best actor nominee Ke Huy Quan are just the tip of this movie's iceberg. Jamie Lee Curtis specifically did a great job, as well as James Hong in a more limited role still did great.

The Whale

Our four main cast members all deserve love for their performances, including Hong Chau and Brendan Fraser's nominations for best actor/actress, but Sadie Sink and Ty Simpkins both brought their A games.

The Woman King

Wow this cast did a great job. Two best actress nominees from this bunch in Viola Davis and Lashana Lynch obviously but also Thuso Mbedu John Boyega and Sheila Atim all did great.  The relationship between Lynch and Davis was powerful and gave so much reason as to why we rooted for these characters.

To Leslie

I struggle to find a picture of the cast together for this one sadly, so I chose this one to highlight Marc Maron and Andre Royo. These two actors put on great performances and I specifically came out of this movie wanting to see them in everything. But across the board this cast did an incredible job, Allison Janney and Stephen Root played a balancing act of taking control of their scenes. Owen Teague broke my heart with some of the looks he gave. Not to mention of course, best actress nominee Andrea Riseborough's painful heartfelt performance.
