HLS Movie Awards Top 160 Movies of 2022 Part 1! 160-101
Welcome back to HLS Entertainment! Today we are kicking off the fourth annual HLS Movie Awards on the hottest foot we can, the worst of the worst of 2022. As you can see, I watched 160 movies released in 2022, now that means released to the public not when it was at some film festival. I decided to break the chunks up differently this year due to volume and a lot of this section belongs in the same heap together. Not to say this is a list of a couple dozen terrible movies, I actually enjoyed 40+ of these and the others are well, terrible. I am not going to be giving an in-depth breakdown of each movie in this section, though I definitely have brief comments on each. I like the idea of this section being used as almost a movie recommendation list.
Now like always with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale there is, the IMDB user rating score. Here is a simple breakdown of what their 0.0-10 grading scale means:
160. The Bubble (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 4.7
An abomination of a film
159. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 4.7
One of the worst slasher films of all time, and not in a so bad its good way.
158. The Munsters (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 4.5
Okay so the look and commitment to the bit is very solid but man does everything else STINK about this movie. Yes I would watch a sequel with the same cast and set/makeup people but nothing else.
157. Grimcutty (Hulu)
IMDb Score: 4.3
I feel like this movie could have been good but its just not, showed the monster too much.
156. Blackout
IMDb Score: 3.8
Yet another John Wick rip off without the compelling story but fun enough action to not be that mad at. This is the daytime tv action movie but no channel would pay to air it, it is that bad.
155. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
IMDb Score: 7.1
Grew up watching the series and this movie is exactly what everyone who hates the series thinks it is. PS2 cutscene graphics are just the tip of the terrible movie iceberg.
154. Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher (Amazon)
IMDb Score: 5.5
One of the worst boxing movies I have seen. Russell Crowe really just doing anything these days.
153. Pinocchio (Disney+)
IMDb Score: 5.0
Stop making remakes of this crappy story. Disney was at least smart enough to put it straight on Disney+.
152. Home Team (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.0
This movie was so bad its good type of funny, but it is still so bad. I have no idea how Sean Payton allowed this to happen.
151. Easter Sunday
IMDb Score: 5.3
As a fan of Jo Koy's standup I was really rooting for this movie but it's just not good.
150. The Bob's Burger Movie
IMDb Score: 7.0
I understand this is 100% just a situation where this type of comedy isn't my thing. If you love the show, I am sure you'll love the movie.
149. The Princess (Hulu)
IMDb Score: 5.6
Enjoyed it, but this movie thought it was so much better than it was. Yes, I would watch an improved upon sequel.
148. Moonfall
IMDb Score: 5.1
I love a good disaster movie; this is not a good one, but I loved the ridiculousness.
147. Interceptor (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 4.6
This movie understood how ridiculous it is and leans into it hard, so much so I questioned whether it was self-aware or not. Also, this has the biggest random cameo ever in a tiny bad movie.
146. Senior Year (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 5.5
So many things are weird about this movie, but it is an enjoyable comedy.
145. The 355
IMDb Score: 5.5
This is definitely a 'I enjoy watching this group of actors do cool things' bad movie.
144. Samaritan (Amazon)
IMDb Score: 5.7
Had no business being okay and it surprisingly was. Nothing special but if you're a big Stallone fan then check it out.
143. Spin Me Around
IMDb Score: 5.2
This movie SHOULD have been good, but it just isn't. I was so confused at what in the world this movie is, and it was too.
142. Ambulance
IMDb Score: 6.1
Plenty of good Michael Bay action in a bad nonsensical movie.
141. Me Time (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 5.1
If you enjoy these two being goofs it is worth flipping it on, fun dumb bad comedy.
140. Umma
IMDb Score: 4.7
I feel like this movie was so close to actually being a good horror movie.
139. We're All Going to the World Fair
IMDb Score: 5.3
Movie did a good job instilling an air of creepiness but ultimately isn't worth it. Would love to see those involved get another shot at making horror movies.
138. Morbius
IMDb Score: 5.2
I mean it isn't Venom 2 bad but also isn't Venom 1 good. Very much over hated film that is essentially a pre-MCU comic book film quality.
137. Prey for the Devil
IMDb Score: 5.2
If you love horror movies and haven't seen the trailer for this DO NOT WATCH IT, just watch the movie. 99% of this movie's best moments are in the trailer and honestly it ruined the viewing experience.
136. Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank
IMDb Score: 5.7
I am very confused how this movie was not a hit, maybe it was too adult at times for kids.
135. No Exit (Hulu)
IMDb Score: 6.1
It is a fine streaming movie; you know what that bar is. It is fine, fun story but nothing special.
134. Last Seen Alive
IMDb Score: 5.6
This movie is the fantasy of the alcoholic husband who is definitely about to get a divorce but gets a reason to step up and "be a man" and save the wife.
133. Deep Water (Hulu)
IMDb Score: 5.4
This (or No Exit) is probably the point in the list where these are just fine movies, and you know they aren't bad. Fun little thriller, with actors I enjoy.
132. Silverton Siege (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.3
Zero idea how historically accurate it is but this is a compelling story that isn't the best movie.
131. Blonde (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 5.5
There is so much VERY bad and very good in this movie that it ends up a confusing mess.
130. The Man from Toronto (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 5.8
Fun comedy, nothing special
129. Black Adam
IMDb Score: 6.4
The landscape of the DCEU was changed forever, they dropped the E just like they just dropped this movie and every plan it tried to set up. It makes ZERO sense to any other movie, but honestly its basically like picking up a random comic having not had read any stories it tries to connect to (that don't exist).
128. Entergalactic (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 7.4
I had no idea this was rated R/MA going into it but is clearly an eh homage to the art style used in Into the Spider-Verse. Visually looked good but was never near as good as what it tried to copy.
127. Against the Ice (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.5
Based on a true story but they severely needed to rework the script a bit there just isn't the tension they wanted.
126. The Invitation
IMDb Score: 5.3
Another movie that revealed severely too much in the trailer, especially because the actual plot of the movie teases you that it could be different. Don't watch the trailer, just enjoy the dumb fun vampire movie.
125. Armageddon Time
IMDb Score: 6.5
Man this was a swing and a miss at Oscar bait.
124. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 7.6
Stop. Retelling. This. Boring. Story. If I had to watch this same crap story for the 100th time to get to have Guillermo doing other new stories in this incredible stop animation I will be happy.
123. The Eternal Daughter
IMDb Score: 6.0
This movie needed just something to pump it up, make it creepier or make it more introspective. It fell in the semi stale in between.
122. The Stranger (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.6
Based on a true story, don't look it up if you want to watch it. It is just a confusing thriller with two incredible actors and a lackluster script.
121. Emily the Criminal
IMDb Score: 6.7
From here on out this are for sure good movies. Please let Aubrey Plaza do more films like this, really fun crime thriller.
120. Luck (AppleTV)
IMDb Score: 6.4
This movie is just a Pixar movie without the top of the line (but still good) animation.
119. The Sea Beast (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 7.0
This movie is BEAUTIFUL but way too long and stretched out.
118. Amsterdam
IMDb Score: 6.1
My main takeaway from this film was the vibe the trailer promised was so much better than the final product.
117. Emergency (Amazon)
IMDb Score: 6.2
The script and acting rise above expectations but the filming and editing held this movie back.
116. Dog
IMDb Score: 6.5
Channing Tatum is fine as a lead; movie will probably make you cry but it ultimately just doesn't leave a big impact.
115. Wendell & Wild (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.4
Stunning animation, very blah story.
114. Enola Holmes 2 (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 6.7
I will watch 20 of these films.
113. Uncharted
IMDb Score: 6.3
Do you enjoy big dumb fun adventure movies with puzzles and history? Watch this.
112. Death on the Nile
IMDb Score: 6.3
A not-so-great murder mystery that is filled with good actors and bad timing.
111. Scream (5)
IMDb Score: 6.3
I am so confused at this film's title; the meta-ness is back, and I am excited for Scream 6.
110. Spiderhead (Netflix)
IMDb Score: 5.4
This movie has the same co-star and director of Top Gun Maverick, did you hear about it? Probably not, and that tells you how much Netflix trusted this movie. Enjoyable, should have been significantly better.
109. Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore
IMDb Score: 6.2
This movie probably deserves to be a bit higher, but only if you have never seen or read anything Harry Potter and have been living under a rock and have no idea about the offscreen issues surrounding this franchise.
108. All the Old Knives (Amazon)
IMDb Score: 6.1
I mean it is a spy movie, but this movie left such a small impression on me I struggle to recall it.
107. Strange World
IMDb Score: 5.6
I mean the Disney animation people just turned a lot of previz stuff for Quantumania into a Disney movie. A very lack luster Disney flick nothing terrible nothing great.
106. Jackass Forever
IMDb Score: 6.9
You are either in for this ride or you aren't. We know who we are. I cackled most of the movie.
105. The Cursed
IMDb Score: 6.3
A fun Werewolf flick that isn't special.
104. Rise (Disney+)
IMDb Score: 7.0
For how miniscule this budget had to be this movie is significantly better than it should have been.
103. Rosaline (Hulu)
IMDb Score: 6.4
Had no expectations for this and had a blast with this silly retelling of one of the most famous stories of all time.
102. Halloween Ends
IMDb Score: 5.0
Hey, listen I understand people hated this movie but for whatever reason I just did not have the same reaction to this movie. I very much enjoyed this and is probably my favorite of this trilogy? They really leaned into the ridiculousness, and I respect that.
101. Confess Fletch
IMDb Score: 6.5
This is the first Fletch anything I have ever seen, and I would love for this to become a TV series.
