Week two of college football did not disappoint. Upsets, big games going down to the wire, and cupcakes galore. A discussion I want us all to ponder, who gets into the playoffs out of these potential teams 11-1 Texas A&M/Alabama/Georgia/Clemson/Ohio State 12-0 Oregon/Oklahoma/Cincinnati? Now go fuss at your ADs if your team's conference is a part of "the Alliance" because as of right now the only thing to come out of it is the expansion of the CFB playoffs being in danger. At least half of those teams will miss the playoffs this year.
Time for the weekly rundown. Deep breathes everybody. The mullet boy Chanticleers beat perpetual sad boys Kansas 49-22 continuing their run. Alabama shows no mercy whipping Mercer 48-14 with Nick Saban still yelling on the sideline up 40 I love CFB being back. Oregon walks into Columbus Ohio and proves they are THE real playoff contender controlling the game the whole way 35-28. Auburn continues their beatdown of the high schools in the south and finally get a real matchup in week 3. Dan Mullen still continues the charade of Emory Jones being their starting QB as Anthony Richardson goes 3/3 152 2TDs and 4 rushes for 115 and another score on the ground in their win over USF. Virginia Tech did just enough to not get dropped in the rankings winning 35-14 over MTSU in a game no one outside Blacksburg cared about.
Notre Dame continues to execute their barely win over crap teams game plan winning 32-29 over the fourth best team in Ohio Toledo. The mailman delivered in Athens as Stetson Bennett came in and started for the resting JT Daniels and Georgia took care of business beating UAB 56-7. Texas A&M was almost kicked out of the SEC and the top 10 as their season almost went up in smoke barely escaping Colorado 10-7. The Bearcats beat Murray State 42-7. Penn State actually took care of BallState 44-13. Iowa continues their dominance over Iowa State and secures the Cyclones spot as this year's team big disappointment. Clemson beats their first South Carolina of the year beating SC State 49-3. Oklahoma demolishes WCU 76-0, they didn't know what school that stood for either.
Deep Sigh
Arkansas rolled out the SEC welcome mat and just embarrassed Texas and myself 40-21. Wisconsin played a game? beating Eastern Michigan 34-7. App State did all I wanted them to do, prove Miami is not a great team by keeping way to close barely losing 23-25. Ole Miss beat my second favorite team of 2020 in Austin Peay 54-17, they came in 2nd as they kicked off the 2020 season last year after the will they won't they play debate. UNC started its "I swear we have a competent offense" tour as they put up 59 whipping Georgia State. The Holy War finally has a new victor, after losing 9 straight times BYU beats Utah and embarrasses me and the Pac 12. But not near as bad as Clay Helton and USC losing 42-38 to Stanford saving David Shaw's job for one more year and leaving Helton on the imaginary tarmac. Arizona State quietly took care of business on the field this time 37-10 over UNLV.

Bets I Should Have Won
Just all of my totals. This was my worst week for #HLSBets when it comes to betting the totals. I feel like I should apologize for such a crap week going 2-7 totals alone compared to the 14-6 in MLs and spreads combined. I mean it was not just like everything went over or everything went under, it was all over the map. That is why we love college football though, the unpredictability. This week was on me gotta get back in the film room and improve, don't blame the picks blame me I'm a man, it was a tough slate out there (insert more generic coaching post game quotes)
Heisman Frontrunners
Bryce Young +150
Matt Corral +500
Malik Willis +800 (if they beat ole miss)
Bryce Young might have a permanent spot on this list, if the Heisman is given out tomorrow I feel like it would be very hard to argue against him. So I will not waste time talking about his Mercer game and instead plug three guys that will never be on this list because of where they play. Grayson McCall Coastal 82.5% and 213.72 QBR, Bailey Zappe Western Kentucky 74.7% 10 TDs and 209.55 QBR, Tanner Mordecai SMU 71.4% 11 TDs 206.43 QBR, and Jake Haerner Fresno St. 1009 yards 8TDs 195.78 QBR. Shout out those guys great first two games.
Matt Corral is that serious contender that has the offensive system around him where people respect his Heisman campaign but is not a good enough team where losing a few games would derail it. If he puts up a great performance even in a loss to Alabama on October 2nd then he will still be a strong contender. BUT it can be derailed by losing to another contender in Malik Willis. If Malik Willis leads Liberty to 9-0 and goes into Oxford and beats Matt Corral he will skyrocket up Heisman ballots. He has the name, the talent and an easy enough schedule to get himself to 12-0.

Speaking of Heisman races getting derailed, CJ Stroud's Heisman race might already be over in Columbus. It is really dumb I understand, but being on a national title contender losing a game early in the regular season might as well be a death sentence for a Heisman campaign. The only exemption to this I can think of recently was Derrick Henry in 2015. So unless CJ Stroud is about to have a season like that we can probably sell off any Heisman hopes.
USC and Utah just embarassing weekend. USC obviously more so. Losing a rivalry game happens to the best of teams, but breaking a nearly decade long streak right after joining the top 25 and the hype train is really bad. Now USC... I had a long drawn out thing written here about how Clay Helton now off the hot seat and onto the coals but USC's AD just tweeted out his firing so I guess they are jumping on the firing wagon early. They must have either a line on the coach they want, or there was significantly more issues in the building than we know. Just an absolutely embarrassing loss that genuinely extended David Shaw's life span at Stanford so I am sorry to Stanford fans.
Fool me once, shame on me for trusting Texas to do something by the book. We knew this was going to be a bumpy season for Steve Sarkisian but losing to Arkansas really is a throwback. Texas is definitely not back, glad we got that out of the way early so Sark can build.

The winner of the Auburn/Penn State game is about to CLIMB the rankings all across america for better or worse. This game will give us a lot of insight for interconference matchups though. This game is probably the best game of the week off the top of my head, with Penn State only being a 6.5 favorite we will learn a lot about the national outlook after this game. Now when I say this I mean comparing the talent of the two biggest conferences and then being able to extrapolate from there. No you can not compare wins head to head but inter-conference matchups are a great starting point.
I will just adore jumping on Michigan State fan bandwagon if they beat Miami this weekend. Aside from just taking a victory lap about me being right, I just love cheering against this Miami team because of how dumb it was for people to build them up. This is the same horrible team atmosphere that has players cheering and taking pictures on the sideline while losing by 20. Embarassing.
I mean do I need to add Arkansas and Kentucky to this list? Great win over Texas and Will Levis looks like the best Penn State QB since.. (sports refence deep dive) JEEZ Penn State really does not produce good QBs at all do they?
