#HLSBets 2021 Conference Preview : Big Ten
Welcome back to HLS Entertainment and #HLSBets! Today we are going to be going through every single team in the Big 10 and are going to be discussing their season outlook through the viewpoint of their win total bet. We will be discussing if Vegas gave us some lines that could sneaky give us some easy money. Win totals are some of my favorite bets because it helps EVERY game matter for every team. Which is that not the magic of gambling? Outside of East Lansing or New Jersey what average fan would give a crap to watch Michigan State travel to Rutgers and play?
Of course all of us crazies will be champing at the bit to watch every single second of college football we can, either at a sports bar surrounded by dozens of TVs or sitting at home where you dragged the bedroom television into the living room so you can watch more than one game at once. But how will these games play out for the Big 10? That is what we are here to discuss broadly, we will see the previous season's record and this season's projected win total set by Vegas, and I will be offering advice on how to bet each line. Or I will warn you to stay away because Vegas is great at its job and we do not HAVE to bet every game. I want to remind you I am offering ZERO guarantees just my opinion (the correct one) on how the season as a whole will play out.

Big Ten - West
Illinois
2020 Record: 2-6
2021 Projected Win Total: 3.5
Bet: Over
Bret Bielema is a great coach. So was Lovie Smith... This team will take some time to turn into a winner (if ever) but they do have 5 winnable games. UTSA and Charlotte they get at home, then they just have to win two out of Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers. These games are possible winners so if they steal another game against someone like Purdue this win total is a breeze.
Purdue
2020 Record: 2-4
2021 Projected Win Total: 5
Bet: Under
I do not understand this win total being at 5. I am even more confused by reading other people predicting SEVEN wins for this team. I think at worst this is a push.
Nebraska
2020 Record: 3-5
2021 Projected Win Total: 6
Bet: Under
SIX?!? Take the under and keep up with the Scott Frost hot seat watch. We should know this outcome come Halloween.
Minnesota
2020 Record: 3-4
2021 Projected Win Total: 7
Bet: Stay Away
Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck NEEDS this team to bounce back this year. Last season was a gigantic drop off for this team, and they need to prove to themselves and the country if 2019 or 2020 was the fluke. Stay away it is too volatile.
Wisconsin
2020 Record: 4-3
2021 Projected Win Total: 9.5
Bet: Over
Every single game on this schedule is winnable for this Wisconsin team. 10 wins feels like a very very probable outcome, they could even win 11 or 12. Graham Mertz could be have an amazing season this year, and the defense brings back 8/11 starters so they should be their usual level of stout defense.
Iowa
2020 Record: 6-2
2021 Projected Win Total: 8.5
Bet: Risky Under
I see only a handful of for sure wins here. This team has some big time turnover to deal with and not much time since they are traveling to Ames Iowa in week two. I feel like we will either feel amazing about this bet after week two or will be nervous, I am trusting the under.
Northwestern
2020 Record: 7-2
2021 Projected Win Total: 6
Bet: Over
This is a scrappy as hell team. They honestly could match this total being 6-0 going into the Michigan game. Easiest over with them ending the season with Purdue and Illinois. Might win 9, minimum 7.
Big Ten - East
Michigan State
2020 Record: 2-5
2021 Projected Win Total: 4.5
Bet: Stay Away
Not touching this with a ten foot pole. This team only has about four winnable games, so if anything take the under. But I am not touching this
Michigan
2020 Record: 2-4
2021 Projected Win Total: 7.5
Bet: Stay Away
This really hinges on your view of Washington. I am not sure if Michigan can beat the Huskies. But I do like Jim Harbaugh's chances of getting 8-9 wins, so if anything go over.
Rutgers
2020 Record: 3-6
2021 Projected Win Total: 4
Bet: Stay Away
I mean what an amazing line. I think this is a push, if it was 3.5 its an over and if you get 4.5 its under. Four is their number this year.
Maryland
2020 Record: 2-3
2021 Projected Win Total: 6
Bet: Under
I like this staff and Taulia could go off but I think this is an under. This team has a rough schedule with only 3 for sure wins at most then only a handful of winnable games past that.
Penn State
2020 Record: 4-5
2021 Projected Win Total: 9
Bet: Risky Over
Penn State is the linchpin for this conference this year, so much revolves around if they are actually a good team. I was vocal this past season about how embarassing this team performed and how James Franklin acted on the sideline made it even worse. They could come out and win 10 games or they could be scrapping for a bowl birth. I am rooting for more good football, but I will not be shocked if Franklin is on the hot seat or even fired this season.
Indiana
2020 Record: 6-2
2021 Projected Win Total: 8
Bet: Under
This team has only 5 for sure wins. This was the fakest good team in the entire country this past season. The only reason they had any credibility was their win early over Penn State before we found out how little effort James Franklin and the Nittany Lions were putting in. I am actively rooting for this under because of how annoying I found this team last year. Just a bad offense.
Ohio State
2020 Record: 7-1
2021 Projected Win Total: 11
Bet: Over
Listen, we are all (rightfully) assuming they will just figure it out at QB. I do not think anyone in the Big 10 is an actual threat to challenge them. Bar a major upset this over is going to be settled week two when the Oregon Ducks come to town.
