 CFB Playoffs National Championship

3 Ohio State vs 1 Alabama 7pm ESPN

O/U: 75.5 (3O - 3A) UNDER

Winner: Alabama -315, -9

Well here we are folks, the final game of the college football season. It’s been a wild ride through 2020 and I’m just grateful that the college football season actually happened and was successful. Pour one out for the idiots of the world like Christine Brennan who when the Big 10 decided to play this season called it the “Darkest Day in Big Ten History”. They played, we betted, and aside from a couple game moves here or there the season went pretty smoothly. Football provided us the great escape from life for a few hours each Saturday and I’m thankful for that.

Darkest Day In Big Ten History (yes this still exists)

Now on to the game.

How Ohio State wins this game Offensively it isn’t some 6 touchdown performance from Justin Fields like we saw versus Clemson, it’s Trey Sermon continuing his blazing run he has been on recently. Trey Sermons first 4 games this season he averaged 58 yards per game on the ground rushing with zero TDs, and in the past 3 he is running for 212 yards per game and 4 TDs total. IF Ohio State team can do what no one else has done and slow down Alabama’s offense, their defense is primed to be gashed all night by Trey Sermon. Defensively, this D Line has to come to play, they are one of the best units in the nation and deserve their respect but how will they matchup against the Joe Moore Award winning Alabama offensive line?

How Alabama wins this game  Offensively is very simple, be Alabama. Let Mac Jones cook getting the ball to Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris (who honestly might be the best player on the field). We really need to talk about this offense more, everyone went crazy for LSU’s offense last year where this Alabama offense might be even better. For perspective, through 15 games LSU scored 48.4 ppg, this Alabama team playing ELEVEN SEC teams scored 48.2, imagine if they had the usual cupcake games to boost that. Don’t be fooled by the 31-14 Notre Dame final score, Alabama pulled off the gas in the first quarter when it was clear how much better they were than Notre Dame. Point being, if Alabama’s offense plays like they have all season there is nothing Ohio State can do to stop it. Defensively they have to step it up, this is not the same dominating Alabama defense Nick Saban has had year after year, this defense can get beat. This defense is very susceptible to getting run and thrown on, they have to step it up or it will be a long night.

My worries for both teams:

OSU- I’m still not a Justin Fields believer, that Clemson game is the first big game of his career where he looked above average passer. I think Alabama will have some weird looks for him to confuse him into throwing picks. Can this offense keep up with Alabama?

Bama- Rimington trophy winner Landon Dickerson will not be playing once again for Alabama, now Chris Owens is a senior that has played just about every position on the offensive line, but if Ohio State can cause chaos up front without your leadership at center this could be bad for Alabama. Can this injured offensive line hold up against Ohio States incredible defensive line?

Let’s look at the Total: Both teams have actually passed this crazy high total 75.5 three times a piece, that’s half of Ohio States season! Which makes this over seem more and more likely looking at it on paper. I’m torn here because this very easily can become a 45-42 game but something just tells me that won’t happen. Something tells me Nick Saban and Alabama is about to do something ugly to Ohio State. This team could be on the war path for redemption for their embarassing 44-16 loss to Clemson two years ago, Ohio State just happens to be the unlucky team in front of them.

Final Thoughts: Will he Won't he, I have gotten rumors about Jaylen Waddle that kind of shock me, will he play? Or is it just a fake out. Ohio State beating Clemson like they did proved they belonged in the playoffs but does it even matter with how great Alabama has been all season?
