#HLSBets CFB Week 8 Recap, Rundown, Top 25 and More!

Welcome back to #HLSBets on HLS Entertainment! Today we are going to be recapping this past weekends terrible slate that turned out some great games as per usual. Upsets and almost upsets galore, college football really showed the reason why it is so great, madness and chaos. How could a title contender almost lose to a bottom of the barrel team in the nation? Is the SEC West back? Or is the Big Ten East the best division in football?     Wednesday night there was a tragic mullet shaving as upset kings Appalachian State knocked off Coastal Carolina 30-27. On Thursday SMU decided to just keep winning now at 7-0 after running it up 55-26 on Tulane. Cincy, I am begging you to give me a reason to drop you, I do not believe you are a rightful playoff contender and a 27-20 win over Navy at this point in the season is way too close. Speaking of way too close a team that I did drop, Oklahoma aren't you embarrassed? You had absolutely nothing for that Kansas defense, you were down 0-10 at half and did not take the lead until 12 minutes left to go in the game, I wish you lost but you still won 35-23.

Michigan hosted Northwestern and were nice hosts to the 3-4 team, let them stick around the entire first half before the Blue offense finally came alive and Michigan won 33-7. Penn State, oh Penn State. I almost do not blame them for this game but then I remember it is ILLINOIS, a team they should beat by 3+ scores blindfolded. But alas these offenses were pitiful and it continued on to 2 overtimes and about 14 fake overtimes that resulted in a 20-18 win for Illinois over Penn State. Wake Forest and Army's offenses were shot out of a cannon on Saturday just must watch tv for different reasons. Army ran the ball for 416 yards and Wake Forest threw it for 458, a 70-56 Wake Forest win is something nobody saw coming, both teams beat the 52 point total by themselves. I hope you enjoyed your single week being ranked Purdue, because losing 30-13 to Wisconsin is a fast way to drop out.

Oklahoma State embarrassed me again as I was once again on the wrong side of them, this time losing to Iowa State 21-24 ruining my set up that I ended on last week. Ole Miss surprisingly only beat LSU by 14 in their 31-17 victory on the day they retired Eli this definitely isn't happening to recruit Arch Manning's number and put him in their ring of honor. Kenny Pickett torched the defense everyone keeps claiming is still elite beating Clemson 27-17. Oregon UCLA, what a weird game. Aside from the final kneel downs three out of the last four drives ended in interceptions and with some overlap three of the four drives before that was touchdowns. Incredible game, Oregon held on to win 34-31.

Well the third (fourth) Saturday in October continues to be a sad holiday in Knoxville, now having lost 15 straight to Alabama. Is this even a rivalry anymore? Alabama won 52-24. San Diego State barely hung on beating Air Force 20-14. Do we need to respect UTSA more? The 8-0 squad just took down Louisiana Tech 45-16. Ohio State is just really good, and is easily the class of the Big Ten right now after beating Indiana like they are supposed to 54-7.

Honestly, if you are not a USC or Notre Dame fan, does anyone care about this game anymore? It used to be much watch tv of two historic programs but it just doesn't matter anymore. Heck two of USC's last three wins in this series were by Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian. ND 31 USC 16. Texas A&M is starting to get hot they just bullied South Carolina 44-14 holding them to 185 TOTAL yards, and their next two games might help them climb back into the top ten. NC State really might have killed what little strength the ACC had left losing to Miami 31-30, as well as saved Manny Diaz job. It is truly just a mad house in the ACC this season, anyone can lose to anyone.

Bets I Should Have Won

Virginia Tech ML and spread against Syracuse

NC State @ Miami 53 Under ML -165, -3

Honestly it is more on me for thinking it was okay to trust the Hokies. But they were just dominated by that Syracuse offense, allowing 550 total yards including 314 on the ground. 314. That is ridiculous. But the worst part is they had the lead with a minute left in the game. They punt the ball and just can not waste a minute of game clock before getting torched over the top for a 45 yard TD pass to end the game.

It hurts so much more when the team has multiple attempts at taking the lead late in the fourth but just can not get the job done. That was NC State on Saturday, the first time they were able to bring it to 1 point because of a field goal but they were only able to do that because of the roughing the kicker call on their missed field goal attempt. They then get a three and out and just completely fail to move the ball, could get a single first down. I feel like I have so many teams on my do not bet on or against list but NC State might have to be added to it. How do you lose to this bad Miami team.

Heisman Frontrunners

Bryce Young +150

Matt Corral +250

CJ Stroud +600

Kenny Pickett +1200

Is Bryce Young starting to pull away from the pack? Matt Corral is falling off because he is not throwing touchdowns (eleven less TDs and 500 less passing yards than Young). CJ Stroud is the late coming on but it really is determined if voters really believe in he and Ohio State. Meanwhile Kenny Pickett is right there with Young and Stroud, better in certain numbers, and looks to be a real NFL talent but will people vote for him?

Sell Your Stock In

Absolutely screw the new overtime rules. Sell sell sell, we need to get rid of this trash new system. For those unaware, college football had the perfect overtime system that NFL fans like myself were begging the league to adapt. How it worked was both teams get a shot at the endzone or a field goal for each period, after a point it would be a requirement to go for two if you scored. Now, we get two normal overtimes where each team gets a shot and then essentially penalty shoot outs to determine the game via two point conversions. Ridiculous.

Do not let a single person tell you this was done for player safety, this rule happened entirely because of the absolutely electric seven overtime game between LSU and Texas A&M. Why you say? TV contracts, ESPN or whomever wants to be able to move on to the next game so they do not lose ad revenue. That is it, that is why we changed the perfect rules. Not because players were hurt in that overtime, but so they can end the game as fast as possible.

This terrible rule can not stay, it just is not football. Football is a game of momentum, and single play 2pt conversion shootouts is not football. We can not let money grubbers who do not care about the sport change how we decide games.

Chaos

As myself and everyone else has said 2021 is 2007 all over again, chaos reigns supreme. This week it was Coastal Carolina, Oklahoma State and Penn State falling victim to chaos. Heck Oklahoma barely survived Kansas. People who should have lost their jobs this week saved their jobs. What team will fall victim to chaos this week? Will Wisconsin beat Iowa? Could 4-3 Texas beat 6-1 Baylor? The world's largest cocktail party is this weekend will the Gators spoil Georgia's undefeated dreams? Can Mississippi State beat #12 Kentucky? What about North Carolina coming alive and possibly beating Notre Dame? We have an absolutely incredible slate this upcoming week I can not wait to veg out and watch as many games as possible.
