HLS Movie Awards Nominees : Best Stunt Work

Image
Welcome to the first HLS Movie Awards Nominees list, this will be coming out every Friday until the HLS Movie Awards on April 16th. There are eight different categories, Best Stunt Work, Streaming Award, Best Score, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Visuals, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Movie of 2020. I want it very clear I am only talking about movies that were specifically released IN 2020 between January 1st to December 31st; Not when they premiered at a festival, but when they premiered for the public whether that be in theaters or on a streaming service.     This weeks nominees are for the category Best Stunt Work in a movie released in 2020. This really was not a strong year for this category sadly, but that is primarily because big action movies with stunt great stunt work are theater movies but with so many theaters shut down the movies were held onto for 2021. But, there were still four very worthy contenders for this award and here they are  in alphabetical

HLS Top Movie of 2020 Part 4! 25-11

Image
Welcome back to HLS Top movie list, this is part 4 and will be a shorter list than the past two to set up the top ten: If you missed the first few installments you can click on them here  Part 1 92-81  ,  Part 2 80-51  ,  Part 3 50-26  .  One thing I want to point out is sometimes when writing my quick blurbs about each film I am trying to sell the movie  to you, if I cannot reveal the plot without spoiling it I generally will say so or recommend you watch the trailer but there are sometimes where I am being purposefully misleading in a description ONLY because I hate spoilers and what I say is true but the context of the movie changes what I said. Now with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale out there, the IMDB user rating score. Here is a simple breakdown of what their 0.0-10 grading scale means: 0.1-5.0  = Horrible waste of time 5.1-6.4  = Risky might be good might be garbage 6.5-7.4  = Good solid movie 7.5+      = Movie that

Welcome back to part three of HLS Top Movies of 2020! Now only a few people have been too angry at me for a couple spots on my list (Birds of Prey) and I imagine this chunk will anger a few more people. If you are just seeing this and did not get a chance to read  Part 1  or  Part 2  I would love it if you clicked those links to have the opportunity to do so, just in case so you do not think I might have missed one of your favorite movies of the year! And you know, I like watched the numbers go up so please share with your friends! Now with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale out there, the IMDB user rating score. Here is a simple breakdown of what there 0.0-10 grading scale means: 0.1-5.0  = Horrible waste of time 5.1-6.4  = Risky might be good might be garbage 6.5-7.4  = Good solid movie 7.5+      = Movie that is widely adored by everyone Now this is not a gold standard but is a good starting point, on to the movies. “The Rental” (2020) Movie Review aka the 2nd Scooby Doo movie of 2020

Image
This is a SPOILERS filled review for “The Rental” (2020)  “The Rental” was the directorial debut for Dave Franco and is a new take at the classic slasher film. This movie serves as the first entrée into a new slasher movie series(hopefully). With a new and terrifying idea of what happens when we rent houses and apartments on places like Airbnb.com. Who was there before us? Who owns it? Who stays there when we leave? The movie starts slightly confusing with how the relationships are portrayed between the main characters but is shortly figured out. The headline actors in this movie are of course Dan Stevens and Alison Brie, but also stars the talented Sheila Vand, Toby Huss and Jeremy Allen White.  I thought this movie was very well done, with an intriguing plot and was shot and acted wonderfully. The plot itself is not some grand new idea it is your prototypical slasher film but that is okay it does not try to be more than it is. This film tries  to just set up a new slasher villain alo

#HLSBets Super Bowl Preview

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 5:30pm CBS O/U: 56 (opened 56.5 so trending down) Winner: Chiefs -160 -3, Bucs  +135 +3 (opened -165+145, -+3.5)  Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday, the final day of the football season. This year has been one hell of a mess with Covid and the Browns and Bills actually being good, hell must have frozen over. Tom Brady left New England after over two decades of freezing his butt off in Foxborough and turned a 7-9 team into a possible Super Bowl winning team. Patrick Mahomes is slowly becoming the most iconic person that sounds like Kermit the Frog (including Jim Henson) who with a win today that would put him at 7 playoff wins compared to his EIGHT TOTAL REGULAR SEASON LOSSES. We are in rarified air here, the GOAT versus the phenom freak. As a fair reminder one of Patrick Mahomes Eight total regular season losses was to Tom Brady and the Patriots, as well as his only playoff loss came at the hands of Tom Brady in overtime.      I know we all love t

Welcome back for Part 2 of my Top Movies of 2020 list! If you missed Part 1 here is a link  HLS Top Movies of 2020 Part 1  . In this blog I will be going through 80-51, this is the section that ranges from controversial to sometimes just blah movies that should have been better.  Now with every movie I am going to be putting what I personally think is the safest grading scale out there, the IMDB user rating score: 1-5        = Horrible waste of time 5.1-6.4  = Risky might be good might be garbage 6.5-7.4  = Good solid movie 7.5+      = Movie that is generally very well liked by everyone Now this is not a gold standard but is a good starting point, on to the movies. On to the movies! 80. The One and Only Ivan (Disney+) - IMDb Score: 6.7      This is just a simple heartfelt Disney movie that is essentially just a tv movie given a higher budget so it could afford bigger actors like Bryan Cranston, Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren and Danny DeVito. Simple and fun, do not expect a
